Application and Admission Procedures

The Master program is currently open to all applicants, that fulfill the requirements.

Applicants with a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the RUB or another German university can enrol in the M.Sc. programme at the students’ registration office during the enrolment period by presenting their degree certificate and the certificate of the mandatory counselling interview.

Applicants with a related or compatible (B.Sc.) degree from a German university or with a 2-subject Bachelor’s degree from the RUB that includes Chemistry must have their first degree accredited by an equivalency examination at the faculty’s examination office before being enrolled. Direct enrolment is not possible. For the enrolment at the students’ registration office the certificate of recognition of equivalent academic achievements and the certificate of the mandatory counselling interview are required. In some cases it may be compulsory for the student to attend additional classes to make up for areas not covered in the first-degree programme.

Applicants with a degree in Chemistry or a compatible or related (B.Sc.) degree from a foreign university must apply for admission through the university’s online application.

Counselling interview (after admission to the Master course is complete):
A counselling interview with the head of the Chemistry examination office is obligatory after your successful application. The certification of the completion of the interview must be presented at enrolment. The counselling interviews are coordinated by the examinations office.

Closing date for applications :
Closing date for applicants with a degree from a foreign university: 15 July for the winter semester, 15 January for the summer semester.
Please note the enrolment period...

Beyond the Master

Professional Areas:
Typical job opportunities for graduates of the M.Sc. program are in the areas of research and development and in dealing with problems concerning process applications.

Doctoral Program:
A doctoral program exists in Chemistry/Biochemistry which offers the opportunity to carry out independent research and write a doctoral thesis in one of the specialized fields available in the department. M.Sc. or “Diplom“ graduates are qualified for this program. Especially qualified B.Sc. graduates may also be admitted directly to the doctoral program. In this case, students are required to carry out preparatory studies of one year in the Master program. The research studies in the doctoral program generally comprise 6 semesters.
The doctoral degree qualifies graduates for leading positions in research and development. Currently, 90 % of all chemists have gained their doctorate degree.
